In the immediate, devastating aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, the number one question on every traveler’s mind was, “Should I cancel my trip to Jamaica?” With airports closed and resorts facing severe damage, the future of the island’s winter tourism season was in serious doubt.

Now, we have the first clear answers.

Here at Travel Off Path, we’ve been monitoring the recovery efforts 24/7. In a stunning display of resilience, Jamaica’s tourism sector is not just rebuilding; it’s in a full-on sprint to reopen. Jamaica’s official target date for the tourism sector to be fully back in operation is December 15, 2025.

The best news for travelers? Both Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay and Norman Manley International Airport (KIN) in Kingston are already open and operational.

While some hotels were lucky to escape the worst, many major resorts are reopening in phases. This is the most critical information for anyone with a trip booked. We’ve compiled the official, vetted list of reopening dates so you can plan accordingly.

Scheduled Resort Reopening Dates

Here is a list of opening dates that have been announced by various resorts and the Jamaica Tourist Board.

Already Open

These properties were largely unaffected by the storm or have already resumed full operations. Travelers to these resorts, as well as in Kingston and Ocho Rios, will see the most normalcy.

These properties are moving at incredible speed to welcome guests back this month.

• November 15: Riu Negril; Sunset at the Palms
• November 16: Ocean Coral Spring; Ocean Eden Bay

• November 30: Riu Palace Jamaica; Riu Reggae Montego Bay; Riu Palace Tropical Bay

December 2025 Reopenings

This is the big push. The following resorts are targeting the official December 15 date to be ready for the peak holiday season.

• December 1: Couples Resorts (Negril, Sans Souci, Swept Away, Tower Isle); Grand Decameron properties; Princess Grand Jamaica; Princess Senses The Mangrove
• December 6: Beaches Negril; Sandals Dunn’s River; Sandals Negril; Sandals Ochi; Sandals Royal Plantation
• December 8: Round Hill Hotel and Villas
• December 13: The Tryall Club
• December 15: Half Moon (phased reopening); Riu Palace Aquarelle; Royalton properties (Blue Waters, White Sands, Negril)

2026 Reopenings (The Hardest Hit)

This is the most critical, “must-know” information for travelers. The following resorts, many of which are concentrated in the heavily impacted Montego Bay area, sustained significant damage and are not scheduled to reopen until 2026.

• January 31, 2026: Hyatt Ziva/Zilara Rose Hall; Breathless; Zoëtry; Secrets; Jewel resorts in Montego Bay
• May 30, 2026: Sandals Montego Bay; Sandals Royal Caribbean; Sandals South Coast

This list is the key to your travel plans.

• If your resort is on the “Already Open” or “November” list, your trip is very likely safe.
• If your trip is in December, this list is your best guide, but you must be proactive.
• If your resort is on the “2026 Reopenings” list, you need to be contacting your airline and travel provider today to rebook or get a refund.
